Wattpad Originals

Formerly known as Wattpad's Paid Stories, Wattpad Originals is a program that allows writers on Wattpad to earn money for their works while providing a way for readers to support them voluntarily. This new revamp of Paid Stories was created in response to the community asking for ways to support their favorite writers and works, but in a new way where authors can be supported while also catering to the larger community's want for reading works within the program. Users can use the Wattpad mobile app to purchase coins, which unlock Originals.

Serving as the alpha version of Wattpad's previous beta program Wattpad Next, Wattpad Paid Stories was launched using Wattpad Next's accumulated data and feedback from the community, and was launched so the platform and community could work together to push writers along in their careers and feature new voices on Wattpad.

On October 2, 2023, Wattpad revamped the Paid Stories program into Wattpad Originals, which now allows readers to enjoy new ways of diving into paid stories while also supporting their creators. Readers can now enjoy updates to their favorite stories every week while being able to access a previously uploaded chapter for FREE once a week. Originals are still locked behind a paywall like Paid Stories were, but it is now more balanced between creators and readers—with only the latest ten (10) chapters locked, one being unlocked every week with each upload,

Why Paid Stories Originals was Launched

Paid Stories Originals was launched solely for the community at the many requests by the community, and serves as the primary means of supporting Wattpad writers directly on the platform. Wattpad users are the first ones to discover these stories and are one of the deciding factors for whether a story is brought into the program or not. Alongside this program exists other sub-programs that help support growing writers on Wattpad, such as Wattpad WEBTOON Studios, Wattpad Brand Partnerships, Wattpad Creators.
